| Discovery Learning Lab |
First Baptist Church School offers a special program
in multisensory structured language remediation to help students with
learning differences in grades 1-8 achieve success at school. The
Discovery Learning Lab is designed to provide academic support for
students with currently documented dyslexia diagnoses. Our dyslexic
scholars will receive additional help with one-on-one and small group
instruction with careful monitoring and the use of appropriate teaching
methods. Alphabetic Phonics is the primary Orton-Gillingham based
multisensory structured language program used in the Discovery Learning
Lab. The Take Flight Program from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital
Dyslexia Lab, as well as the Project Read written expression and
reading comprehension strands are also incorporated into the program.
The Discovery Learning Lab staff works closely with classroom teachers
to help meet individual needs. Each student's progress is monitored,
and feedback is provided to the parents. There is an additional fee for
this service.
